  • Alsace - Lorraine, France
     September 8, 2021
     10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join experienced traveler and tour guide, Colette Clarke, as she highlights the regions of Alsace and Lorraine in northeastern France. Alsace delights us with its distinctive architecture, famous cuisine and wines, and a colorful history dating back to Roman times. It is bordered by the Vosges mountains to the west and the Rhine River to the east and features the famous cultural city of Strasbourg – with a picturesque old town and a glorious gothic cathedral. Lorraine, to the east of Alsace, features two historic and elegant cities, Metz and Nancy, which both contain examples of elegant architecture, historic old centers with small winding streets, fine cuisine and wines. But this is also a unique area between France and Germany, with its own version of Franco-German culture and traditions. We will also discuss the Battle Verdun, the deadliest and most costly battle of WWI, which took place in the province of Lorraine.

This is a hybrid class that will be offered in person and on Zoom. Participants will be sent an email the day before the class with the Zoom link. If they plan to attend in person, they need to reply to that email to let us know that they will be attending in person.
