Of Mice and Men is a 1937 novella by Steinbeck. It describes the experiences of two displaced migrant ranch workers as they move from place to place in California seeking jobs during the Great Depression. Steinbeck based the book on his own experiences as a teenager working along migrant farm workers in the 1910’s. The book appears on the American Library Association‘s list of the Top 100 Banned/Challenged Books. Instructor Kathy Allman will help us to understand elements such as theme, symbolism, and character development, as well as some of the notable literary passages in the novella.
