  • Jewish Partisans during the Holocaust
     November 25, 2024
     2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The partisans were organized resistance groups in Nazi-occupied Europe during WWII, who fought back against the Nazi occupiers.  During the Holocaust, some Jews escaped ghettos and forced labor brigades and joined partisan fighting units throughout Europe, including in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, France, Italy, Belgium, and Greece.  The goals of the Jewish partisans were survival, rescue of fellow Jews, sabotage of the Germans, and support of the Allies in winning the war.  Jewish partisans were often young, many of them teenagers, male and female.  They lived as groups in the forests and hid in urban areas.  This presentation will focus on Jewish partisan units and highlight specific partisans during the Holocaust, including survivors and their lives after the Holocaust.  Lauren Ray is a volunteer Docent Educator at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. Virtual class on Zoom. $5 fee.
