  • Antebellum Period in Tallahassee
     October 9, 2024
     5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

“Antebellum” is derived from a Latin phrase that translates to “before the war” in English. In the United States of America, the phrase frequently refers to the Southern region before the Civil War. Tallahassee’s economy during this period relied solely on enslaved individuals of African descent, who were crucial to the success of the plantation-based economy. Ileana Olmos, curator at Riley House Museum, will discuss this often-overlooked period of Tallahassee’s history. Light refreshments will be served. Preregistration is not necessary. Donation of $8 at the door will be accepted.
