  • Why Short Stories Are Good for Your Health
     September 25, 2024
     1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Using the just-published The Gentlemen of Verona and the Gold Medal-winning When Women Danced With Trees as examples, Marina Brown will read from each book and we will look at why reading is just so darned good for us – from the reduction of anxiety, to the mental stimulation of diverse settings, and the words and expressions that are all like vitamins for our brains. But in the end, reading is fun to do – like a mini-vacation away from home or the cozy refuge of your own chair.

Marina Brown’s stories range from the hilarious, to the slightly naughty, to tales that will leave you thinking and marveling at how life can change on a dime. Mary Ann Lindley says, “This rich collection of imaginative stories will leave every reader wanting more.”

Marina Brown writes for the Tallahassee Democrat and Tallahassee Magazine and is the author of three Gold Medal-winning novels and the 2020 FWA Book of the Year, as well as award-winning volumes of short stories and poetry. She a watercolorist, a cellist, an R.N., a 2023 TSC Silver Star awardee, and a blue-water sailor. She absolutely loves playing ping-pong at the Senior Center.
