  • Lafayette Heritage Park Hike
     September 18, 2024
     8:30 am - 11:00 am

Lake Lafayette extends from Chaires Cross Road to Weems Road in Leon County.  After the RR was built around the Civil War, two earthen dams were later emplaced in 1948 which divided this lake into Lower Lake Lafayette, Piney Z Lake, Upper Lake Lafayette, and Alford Arm. Poor Lake management practices prevailed until the City of Tallahassee purchased Piney Z Lake and the surrounding woodlands and requested assistance from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to improve the water quality and aquatic habitat. Learn how this was done on a 2-mile hike guided by the project manager, fishery biologist, Michael Hill. Wear sturdy shoes or boots, sunscreen, hat, and bring drinking water. If you are driving yourself, meet near the restrooms in the Lafayette Heritage Park parking lot at 9:00 am. If you are riding van from Senior Center meet in Dining Room at 8:30 am.
