Drawing for Beginners: Portraits
Maria Balingit
May 5 – June 9 (6 weeks)
Thursdays, 1 – 4 pm
If you can write your name, you can draw! This six-week, true beginner drawing class is based on innovative concepts from “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards. Anyone can learn to draw by allowing your visual, intuitive “right” brain to lead the way. Our subject will be drawing portraits (human or pets), ranging from master copies to celebrity images to family photos. For the first class it’s fine to bring any favorite art supplies you already have and then we’ll see if you need anything else.
Supplies:
- Strathmore 400 Series 9×12 (or larger) sketch pad with Toned Gray paper (50 sheets) or equivalent 9×12 white sketch pad
- 4B and HB pencils
- Kneaded eraser
- Pencil sharpener
Optional items
- Ultra Fine Point Sharpie, or black rollerball pen, or Micron black art pen
- Masonite drawing board with metal clips (I’ll bring some loaners)
